Colchester is a historic town of 121859 inhabitants. It is the largest settlement within the borough of Colchester in Essex, England.
Colchester is 51.2 miles (82.4 km) northeast of London and is connected to the capital by the A12 road and the Great Eastern Main Line. It is seen as a popular town for commuters, and is less than 30 miles (48 km) away from Stansted Airport.
There are direct flights to Stansted Airport 30 miles (48 km) from most European cities and to Heathrow Airport from almost all overseas cities. London Luton, Southend, and City airports are also all accessible.
By Coach
From Stansted airport to the University of Essex, multiple coaches are available
daily. You have two main options:
1- Take a National Express Coach to “COLCHESTER”, and disembark downtown.
Hire a taxi to the University Business School or to Wivenhoe House.
o Coach: FK250
o Price: £16 coach + £7 taxi
o Time: 55 min coach + 10 min taxi
o Frequency: Coaches depart Stansted roughly every 2 hours from 07:30-
23:59 each day.
o Method: please reserve your coach ticket at National Express Coach, and
call a taxi service when arriving at the bus station (01206.577777;
01206.543210; 01206.544444; 01206.521521; 01206.525525). The taxi
will take seconds to reach you, as most are waiting very close by.
2- Take National Express Coaches directly to “University of Essex (Colchester)”
o Coaches: FK250, switch to NX484
o Price: £16 total
o Time: 2.5 hrs
o Frequency: once daily at 17:20
From Heathrow airport to the University of Essex, multiple coaches are available daily.
You have two main options:
1- Take a National Express Coach to “COLCHESTER”, and disembark downtown.

o Price: £20 coach + £7 taxi
o Time: 2:20 min coach + 10 min taxi
o Frequency: Coaches depart Heathrow every 2-2.5 hours from 05:05-

will take seconds to reach you, as most are waiting very close by.
2- Take National Express Coaches directly to “University of Essex (Colchester)”
o Coaches: FK250, switch to NX484
o Price: £30 total
o Time: 4.5 hrs
o Frequency: once daily at 15:45

By Train
From Stansted Airport:
- Take the Stansted Express train to London Liverpool Street Station
- From London Liverpool Street Station, take any Abellio Greater Anglia service
train to Colchester North Station (this includes trains to Norwich, Ipswich
and Clacton-on Sea).
- From Colchester Station ring for a taxi to bring you to Wivenhoe House or the
Essex Business School. Taxis are waiting outside the train station and do not
need to be called.
From Heathrow:
- By Tube and Train:
o Take the Piccadilly tube line to Holborn, switch to the Central line, and
continue to London Liverpool Street Station.
o From London Liverpool Street Station, take any Abellio Greater Anglia
service train to Colchester Station (COL). This includes trains to Norwich,
Ipswich and Clacton-on Sea.
o From Colchester Station ring for a taxi to bring you to Wivenhoe House or
the Essex Business School. Taxis are waiting outside the train station and
do not need to be called.
- By Heathrow Express, Tube, and Train:
o Take the Heathrow Express to Paddington Station
o From Paddington Station, take the tube Circle (yellow) or Hammersmith &
City (pink) line to London Liverpool Street Station.
o From London Liverpool Street Station, take any Abellio Greater Anglia
service train to Colchester North Station (this includes trains to Norwich,
Ipswich and Clacton-on Sea).
o From Colchester Station ring for a taxi to bring you to to Wivenhoe House
or the Essex Business School. Taxis are waiting outside the train station
and do not need to be called.
By Taxi
Taxis will take you from any airport directly to the University. Local taxi companies can be
contacted for advanced bookings and cheaper rates. Below is a list of companies that we
